Al Mudhaf ranks 6 in Trap

Khaled's Day 1 & 2 of Trap qualifications showed possibility of Bronze medal for 26 yr old who has won 1st place in 2002 World Shooting Championship held in Finland and 2nd place winner in World Cup 2002 in Germany.

Day 1 was looking good with 25,25 and 23. Day 2 looked promising with two rounds of 24 and 25. That totals in 123 score of in Qualifications. Same scores of Bronze winner Austrailian Adam Vella and 4th place shooter Ahmed Al Maktoum. Al Mudhaf still held a chance until the final round scoring a low 20 which put him in 6th place at a final score of 120.

Others worth mentioning like Bronze (Sydney 2000) , Silver (Seoul, world cup 2001), Bronze (Doha, World Cup Final 2001) Double Trap shooter Fheid Al Dehani who will begin competing tomorrow morning along with Mishfi Al Mutairi.

Congratulations to Russian, Alexei Alipov for the almost flawless 149.

Now the big question! Where the hell is the Kuwaiti Women’s team? I thought they have been training to compete in Athens? Or was the club too busy focusing on the male shooters? I hope someone has an answer to my question..

No wonder you posted on skeet (sp.) shooting. I saw the event on German tv, I think its a matter of balance, he looked over weight, compared to Al-Maktoom who was as skinny as a lizard.

I didn't mention skeet because they begin qualifications not until 21st.

I'm not a big fan of Skeet. Trap is my favorite, Double trap is wut u did on weekends after a few sporting rounds.

Yes, Khalid is a big guy but that never got in the way of his shooting, Khalid's problem is his temprament. If he misses one, he panics and misses all. If you look at his scores, you'll notice that he'll miss the 1st or the last disk.

A good shooter maintains an equilbrium of Skill & Patience. Khalid has skill but needs to work on his patience.

with that out of the way, I still do not understand why the Women shooters didn't partake in Athens!

I just posted a comment but I don't know where it went, if you see two comments from me, 3adi..its double the Fusla.

So yes, Khalid might be a big guy but that never got in the way of his shooting. Actually ppl used to joke that he was a good shooter due to his size, being more "centered".
Good shooting comes from an equilibrium of patience & skill. Maintaining that equilibrium is the biggest challange.
Also, If you'll ever notice Khalid's scores..he misses the 1st or last disk cos they're the ones he worries mostly about which shows how his temprament plays into the equation.

btw, my posting was about Trap & Double Trap, they don't begin the Skeet qualifications until 21st, I'm not a big fan..When I get bored of Trap, I do double or a sporting round for fun or to break routine.

with that out of the way, where the hell is the Kuwaiti women's team? I know they've been recieving training and have competed on a number of occasions!

I wonder if the government will ever consider giving scholarships for "Sports Management" degrees say in the new Doha University for professional sports.

As you can tell I have no clue about the differences, all I know is that they shoot plates or disks.

Trap:5 positions on a straight Fire line, you will have 1 disk that flies out of the trap house, you have 2 Cartridge to shoot it with, if you miss the 1st you will still have another go.

Double Trap: 5 positions on a straight line, you will have 2 disks flying out of trap house simultaneously, you have to use both Cartridges to shoot down the 2 disks (doubles)

Skeet: 7 positions on a semicircular line, there are two trap towers which fly single and double disks horizontally across the range.
Unlike trap & double who, a skeet shooter anticipates the shots by holding the riffle down to the waist.

All of the above are official Olympic Games; Sporting however is a more recreational type of shooting in which trap houses are positioned in different places simulating movement of different animals like pheasant and duck, pigeon and rabbit.
Various shooting styles can be used, it is the closest thing to hunting, and maybe this is why I do not personally like it

It is a beautiful sport, locate a shooting range and try it out. It looks very intimidating because of the rules and equipment envolved but most people shoot a disk or two on their 1st round (25), try it out. I personally believe that many "Arabs" are by nature great shooters. Nothing beats a good old day in a nice big green and quiet gunrange!

Muther Fusla!

My friend, same can be said about Fencing, Archery, Martial Arts and Boxing!

All of the above can be considered as violent sports!
Offensive and defensive behaviour is an instinctive feature of the human race. Don't you find it great that we've transformed our hunting & gathering nature into the healthy spirit of competition?
or do u think by practicing these sports we'll be nurturing our violent cavelike qualities?
